An astounding 2.8 billion email messages are sent everysingle working day by office workers in the US. That is almost unbelievable!

Email can give a business big economic savings in paper, postage and so on. Of course. But there's just as much potential for disgruntled employees to use email at work to leak company secrets (perhaps by accident), waste time, grumble to outsiders (and the competition), and discredit their company.

You'll be interested to know that something your company can do to reduce the risk of this problem is to bring in a good corporate team building program. I can think of two reasons this works.

Firstly, good teambuilding programs produce loyal employees.

This is because a member of a team will often not dislike an employer if he feels he is becoming integrated into a team at his office. He'll think he is letting down the others on his team if he becomes too anti-company. What's more, a good team will help him finish his work well and so he will feel positive about himself and therefore his company.

Second, good teambuilding ideas tie team members together.

A relatively inexpensive team building idea like complimentary tickets to a concert or sports event, or a more costly one like giving everyone's family a free holiday, give team members a chance to get to appreciate each other more, in a different situation, in a relaxed frame of mind. Then there the programs that train rather than entertain, using formal games and role plays. These help members become more confident in the others, give each an appreciation of the others, and almost always leave them thinking it is very positive being part of the team.

Now, pause for a minute and consider the email that will be sent by these sort of teams. Will they be the disgruntled, unhappy, complaining emails that spoil the reputation of the company? Almost certainly not.

Well run corporate team building programs and ideas can do more than just increase productivity. They can also cut down the caustic effect of negative, employee-written emails.
