Genital warts are also called condylomata acuminata or venereal warts. This illness is the most easily recognized sign of genital HPV infection. This type of illness found in both male and female. In a female, it is found near the vulva (the outside genital area), vagina, cervix, or anus and in a male, it is found near or on the penis, scrotum, or anus. This illness happens due to the sexual contact. Infant can also be affected by this illness but this is rare. Due to mother contact that is already affected by this illness, infant affected. Condoms can't offer full protection against genital warts, as the virus is passed on through direct skin-to-skin contact, and condoms only cover the penis. Causes

Symptoms

Genital warts often occur in clusters. It can be very tiny or can spread into large masses on genital tissues. Warts may look like tiny bunches of cauliflower or like flat, white areas that are very difficult to see. In women and men, warts may appear in the groin, on and around the genitals, in the urethra, or in the rectum or anus. Sometimes the warts can be seen around and in the mouth and throat of those who have had oral sex with an infected person. Generally it is found that warts themselves are not painful but they can interfere with normal bodily functions, such as urinating and bowel movements, making these actions painful and uncomfortable.

How are genital warts diagnosed?

If you notice warts in your genital area, see your doctor. Your doctor may be able to diagnose the warts just by examining you. For women, a Pap test can help detect changes on the cervix that genital warts can cause.

Treatment

Treatment for the genital warts will depend on size and location. Warts on the genitals may be frozen with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy). Your doctor may have to apply the liquid nitrogen at a number of different office visits until the warts are completely gone.

Podofilox works by destroying genital wart tissue. Your doctor may want to administer the first application, and will recommend precautionary steps to prevent the medication from irritating surrounding skin.
