It is an obvious idea that Burglar Alarms are a valuable investment in the safety of your home and family. Even the appearance of an alarm system might deter the robber from attacking your home. Several studies have revealed that it is much less likely that you will become the victim of a burglary at home if you have a correctly fitted and well maintained burglar alarm.

There are many different types of burglar alarms available for domestic use, but they can be grouped into two main categories; Bells only alarms and monitored alarms.

Bells only alarms are alarms in which the alarm is triggered by one of the alarm components, which sets off an outside bell or siren. This will certainly inform the thief that they have been sensed which may persuade them to leave before getting caught. However, in this day and age when many houses and cars have alarm setups, most people choose to ignore the warnings bells, since they tend to go off quite often. Imagine, how many times have you heard a burglar alarm going off and just ignored it.

This is where monitored alarms come in. With an approved monitored alarm system, any alarm which is activated has a sensor which is passed to a central monitoring station by your telephone. These Alarm Receiving Centers, are then alerted to the potential burglary. The systems then monitor your home alarm system and if they see 2 or more different units activated, they inform the police that an actual incident is taking place.

Two types of alarm systems include:
Type 1 - Which are Remote Signaling Alarms, that include alarm termination at approved central monitoring stations. These alarms will be registered with the police and identified by a unique reference number. The police response to it’s activation will be support on the theory that an offence is taking place and will be conditional based on the number of false activations in the past 12 months. If this happens, another alarm might get less police attention and a lower priority status.
Type 2 - Which is Audible Only and includes the bells-only alarms, as well as alarms that do not belong to central monitoring station. Police assistance is not contacted in this type of alarm unless a person makes a personal phone call during the time of the emergency.

It is up to you and your family which type of system will suit you’re needs better. Make sure you contact several different companies and get a broad opinion before deciding which type of security system is right for you.
