Stock day trading, the most energetic trading practice in a stock market, is greatly responsible for the liquidity that one can see in a market. It is the buying and selling of stocks within a day so that after the trading hours the day traders do not have any open positions. Stock day trading is important as it involves no overnight risks and usually no margin interests. As most stock brokers offers higher leverages to day trades, they can trade large amounts of stocks with lesser amount of actual money.

Stock day trading is practiced for very small profits per stock, usually a small faction of a penny, but the trading in large quantities in very small intervals can provide sufficient profits. Day stock trading is riskier than position trading and swing trading and is only recommended for experienced traders having knowledge of stock market trends and cycles, and of methods to cut-short the losses. Being an active trading practice stock day trading demands concentration and time. The traders have to put their eyes on computer screens to figure out even very small price changes.

Stock day traders can trade stocks listed in major stock markets and over-the-counted (OTC) stocks. Both forms of day trading requires a computer, a trading software, a trading account with sufficient money, real-time access to market data and a trading strategy. The electronic boom of 90s enables traders to day trade stocks virtually from any part of the world. Most stock day traders now trade from their home using a direct access trading platform provided by a discount or online stock broker. The direct access trading helped traders to minimize the time needed to execute the trades, which was so crucial in day trading.

Stock day traders follow many trading strategies like scalping, rebate trading, news playing, trend/momentum trading, range trading etc. The strategy one have to choose depends on many factors like his ability to predict the market, the initial investment, the trading system he uses, the market he trades, the broker he is linked with and his geographical location. The trading systems must be most sophisticated with advanced intraday charting, technical analysis tools, visually enhanced tickers, triggers, alerts, account details, etc.

Day traders must always ready to afford losses and be keen to escape from them as soon as possible. There is not a single stock trader who hasn’t taste the loss. Although it holds the capacity to make unlimited profits, it also can financially destroy you. As day trading mostly depends on computer systems and electronic networks, a trader must keep some backup methods to overcome troubles.
